
Monocotyledons, also known as "Monocots" are one of the two major groups of flowering plants. Monocot seeds only have an embryo with a single cotyledon. Their flower parts are in multiples of three and their major leaf veins are parallel. This is a picture of a flowering plant with twelve petals, which is a multiple of three, therefore, this plant is definitely a monocot plant. This picture was taken at the Home Depot in Southeast Washington, D.C.
