PARENCHYMA CELLS

Parenchyma cells are usually depicted as the "typical" plant cell because they are not very specialized. These cells synthesize and store organic products in the plant. Most of the plant's metabolism takes place in these cells.
EPITHELIAL TISSUE

My skin is epithelial tissue. Epithelial tissue covers the whole surface of the body. It is made up of cells closely packed and ranged in one or more layers. This tissue is specialized to form the covering or lining of all internal and external body surfaces.

ACTIN

Actin is the most abundant protein in the typical eukaryotic cell. The protein is highly conserved, and forms a huge variety of structure in cells in concert with a huge numbers of actin binding proteins.

VASCULAR TISSUE
Vascular tissue is composed of xylem and phloem. These two types of vessels run side-by-side, extending from roots to leaves. They provide channels for the transport of water and nutrients.

GYMNOSPERM LEAF

This is a picture of a conifer tree’s leaves. The needlelike shape of the leaf makes it a gymnosperm leaf.

DECIDUOUS LEAF

This particular type of deciduous leaf is called elliptic. Deciduous leaves fall off or shed at a specific season or stage of growth.

GIBBERELLINS
The substance, named gibberellin, is found to be produced in small quantities by plants. It has many effects on a plant, but primarily stimulates elongation growth. Spraying a plant with gibberellins will usually cause the plant to grow to a larger than expected height, i.e. greater than normal.

KERATIN
This is my hair. Keratin is a tough, insoluble substance that is the main protein found in hair and nails.

R-STRATEGIST
This grasshopper is an r-strategist, like most insects are. R-strategist are usually small in size, can only reproduce once and they have a short life expectancy.

DIPLOID CHROMOSOME NUMBER
All animals have a characteristic number of chromosomes in their body cells called the diploid (or 2n) number.

K-STRATEGIST

I am a K-strategist. K-strategists are usually large in size, they take a while to fully mature, and they can reproduce more than once.

LIGNIN
Lignin is a complex polymer, the chief non carbohydrate constituent of wood, that binds to cellulose fibers and hardens and strengthens the cell walls of plants.

FIBROUS CARBOHYDRATE

Fibrous carbohydrates include asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, mushrooms, spinach and peppers and can also be found in most varieties of dark green leafy vegetables. It is basically any of a group of organic compounds that includes sugars, starches, celluloses, and gums and serves as a major energy source in the diet of animals.
BASIDIOMYCETE
This is a mushroom. A basidiomycete any of various members of a large group of fungi bearing sexually produced spores on a basidium. This group includes puffballs, shelf fungi, rusts, smuts, and mushrooms.

XEROPHYTE
This cactus is a xerophyte. Xerophytes are a type of plant that is well-adapted to water shortages and exhibits adaptations that enable it to store or conserve water. Xerophytes often live in regions where evapotranspiration (the sum of evaporation and plant transpiration) is greater than precipitation for the region during all or part of the growing season

ABSCISIC ACID
Abscisic acid (ABA), also known as abscisin II and dormin, is a plant hormone. ABA functions in many plant developmental processes, including plant bud dormancy.

MONOCOT PLANT WITH FLOWER AND LEAF

This is a picture of a lily. Lilies are monocots because their leaves have parallel veins and the petals are in multiples of three.

CONIFER LEAF
This is a conifer leaf. Conifer leaves are needlelike as opposed to being broad and flat.

Monocot

A Monocot has a single cotyledon in the seed . Monocots also has leaves with parallel veins , and flower parts in multiples of three .

Ethylene

Ethylene is a plant hormone ; and it effects the growth , development , and ripening of all plants . It is also produced by most fruits and vegetables .

Epithelial tissue

Epithelial Tissue covers the surface of the body , and it is made up of cells that are closely packed in one or more layers . This tissue covers all of the the external and internal body surfaces .

Mycorrihzae

Mycorrihzae is an association of a fungus and certain plants such as: confers ,beeches , and orchids ; in which the fungus lives within or on the outside of the plants roots forming a symbiotic relationship .

K-Strategist

K-Strategist tend to be highly adapted to their environment, and are able to compete successfully for food and other resources . The also tend to inhabit stable environments and have relatively long life spans. Humans are an example of a K -strategist

Fruit with a dry seed

Nuts are an example of fruits with a dry seed .

Porifera

Porifera , which are most commonly known as sponges . The Latin name porifera is derived from the numerous pores found on the surface of the sponge .

Keratin

Keratin is a tough fibrours protein , that is the main component in hair, and nails .

Exoskeleton

This photograph was taken at publix , and as you can see lobsters have an exoskeleton . An exoskeleton is an external skeleton that provides protection and support for the organism .

Cnidarian

This particular photograph was taken in Myrtle Beach , South Carolina . I seen this jellyfish which is also classified as a cnidarian , as i was walking along the beach. A cnidarian is an invertebrate and they are characterized by their stinging cells and saclike body cavity . They also have a single opening for food and waste .

Bryophyte

Bryophyte's are plants that consist of mosses and liverworts .

Amniotic Egg

An Amniotic egg is the type of egg that is produced by reptiles , birds, and mammals .

Niche

An ecological niche describes the ecological role and space that an organism fills in an ecosystem. The ecological niche involves both the place where an organism lives and the roles that an organism does in its habitat. An animal's niche can be determined by competition between animals when searching for food, gender, and age. These are pictures of birds interacting with each other in their natural habitat over a five minute time span. By looking at these pictures one can infer that the niche that each of these birds possess is competition when searching for food because they all keep flying off to other locations and age because some look younger or older than others. Gender may also be a factor in the niches of these birds, if they are not all the same gender.

Parenchyma Cells

Parenchyma cells are usually described as the typical "plant cell" because they are not very specialized. These cells synthesize and store organic products in the plant. Most of the plant's metabolism takes place in these cells. This is a picture of flowers that contain parenchyma cells. This picture was taken outside of a restaurant on U Street in Washington, D.C.

Angiosperm

Angiosperms are flowering plants. They are the most diverse group of land plants. This is a picture of an angiosperm, or flowering plant. This picture was taken at the Home Depot in Southeast Washington, D.C.

C4 Plant

C4 Plants are plants that create a four carbon (C4) sugar as its basic sugar unit when performing photosynthesis. Cacti are CAM plants, which are also C4 plants, but instead of segregating the C4 and C3 pathways in different parts of the leaf, they separate them in time instead. This picture was taken at the Home Depot in Southeast Washington, D.C.

K-strategist

Species of organism that uses a survival and reproductive 'strategy' characterized by low fecundity, low mortality, longer life and with populations approaching the carrying capacity of the environment, controlled by density-dependent factors. Human beings are K-strategists. This is a picture of me as a baby. I was a baby K-strategist !

Keratin

Keratin refers to a family of fibrous structural proteins. Keratin is the key structural material of human skin, hair, and nails. Therefore, this picture of my nails represents the Keratin that is in them. This picture was taken at my aunt's house in Washington, D.C.

Frond

A frond can be described as a large, divided leaf. It is a large, compound leaf of palm. This picture was taken at the Home Depot in Southeast Washington, D.C.

Fruit- Fleshy with Seed

Oranges are fleshy fruit with seeds. Fleshy fruits are basically fruits that have soft and pulpy walls. They are thick-fleshed, smooth skinned fruit. This picture was taken at the Harris Teeter Grocery Store in Washington, D.C.

Endotherm

A warm-blooded organism that generates heat to maintain its body temperature, typically above the temperature of its surroundings; a homeotherm. Humans are endothermic. When we get cold, we shiver to generate heat. We do this just to maintain a certain body temperature (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit). In this picture me, my cousin, and her husband are in the snow shivering to generate body heat. Do not let the smiles fool you, we were cold! This picture was taken outside my cousin's apartment in Gardendale, Alabama.

Pteridophyte

Pteridophytes are vascular plants that produce neither flowers nor seeds. Pteridophytes possess true vascular roots, stems, and leaves; they reproduce by means of spores, including the ferns and lycopods. This is a picture of a fern. This picture was taken at my house in Birmingham, Alabama. The fern was located in a bouquet of flowers.

Exoskeleton

Exoskeletons can be described as external skeletons that support and protects the animal's body. This is a picture of crawfish. Like lobsters and crabs, crawfish also have exoskeletons. This picture was taken at the Safeway Grocery Store in Washington, D.C.

Epithelial tissue covers the whole surface of the body. It is made up of cells closely packed and ranged in one or more layers. The skin on my face is an example of Keratinized stratified squamous epithelium because it is the top, surface layer of my skin. This picture was taken at my house in Birmingham, Alabama.

Carbohydrate- Fibrous

Fibrous carbohydrates are complex carbohydrates that come mostly from green vegetables, such as cucumbers and broccoli. Fibrous carbohydrates are rich in fiber and are a good source of minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients. The first picture is a picture of broccoli. The second picture is a picture of cucumbers. Both pictures were taken at the Harris Teeter Grocery Store in Washington, D.C.

Monocot Plant with Flower and Leaf

Monocotyledons, also known as "Monocots" are one of the two major groups of flowering plants. Monocot seeds only have an embryo with a single cotyledon. Their flower parts are in multiples of three and their major leaf veins are parallel. This is a picture of a flowering plant with twelve petals, which is a multiple of three, therefore, this plant is definitely a monocot plant. This picture was taken at the Home Depot in Southeast Washington, D.C.
