An exoskeleton is an external skeletonthat supports and protects an animal's body, in contrast to the internal skeleton (endoskeleton) of, for example, a human. This a picture of a tortoise that I took at Eds Pets World. The shell is its outer skeleton. It uses it to protect itself from predators. And it also keeps its body's shape because it isreally soft and jiggly.
