Thorns are sharp, and often pointy, outgrowths on a plant. They mainly serve to protect the plant against dangerous herbivores. The first picture was taken on the campus of Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. The second picture was taken at the Atlanta Zoo in Atlanta, GA.
